Blackberry and Strawberry Chia Jam

In an effort to cut out sugar, I decided to make sugar free jam. This allows us to still have something containing goodness that tastes great too. Many of us love jam on toast with melted butter but try this for a naturally sugar free version. We eat it with good organic butter and sourdough bread. It’s not only my husband and I who eat it but the kids too.

I made it with honey which they love and this one cooks to a beautiful syrup and the chia seeds bind it all together making it look like jam we all know and love.

I make a pot and it lasts for the week. The chia seeds are little and resemble strawberry seeds and the kids are none the wiser. I will occasionally have this after the school run when relaxing with a cup of tea.


  • 2 tbsp of chia seeds
  • 100g strawberries
  • 100g blackberries
  • 2 tablespoons of honey
  • 1/2 tsp of vanilla extract


  1. Blend the fruit together quickly in a food processor and keep it a little lumpy. Get a pan and add the blended fruit with the honey and vanilla. Cook on a medium heat until it boils slightly, taste test and add more honey if needed (but don’t go crazy).
  2. Take it out and pop it into a bowl to cool down. When almost cold, add the seeds and stir it all in. Mix it really well together.
  3. I usually make it the night before so the mixture can set in the fridge overnight. If you are making it the same day pop it into the fridge and it should be done in 20 minutes.
